The main benefits of the scheme include:
- the saving of the following estimated amounts of greenhouse gases and pollutants throughout its lifetime, compared to a mix of national grid electricity generation sources:
- 1,500,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide;
- 43,000 tonnes of sulphur dioxide and
- 13,000 tonnes of nitrogen oxide
- Theup to approximately £29 million expenditure during construction in the Highlands and Islands economy.
- direct employment for an estimated 80 to 100 people during the 14 to19 month construction period, many of whom will be local construction contractors
- ongoing contract opportunities on a smaller scale during the operational phase
- the provision by the developer of typically £2,750 per MW installed per year into a community fund that will be independently managed by trustees drawn from the local community and allocated to a range of causes and initiatives. This represents:
- £132,000 per annum or
- £3.3 million over the 25 year life of the wind farm.
- habitat enhancement through a substantial reduction in the number of livestock grazing the site.
