The main benefits of the Lochluichart scheme include:
- Saving the following estimated amounts of greenhouse gases and pollutants throughout its 25 year life, compared to a mix of national grid electricity generation sources:
- Over 1,400,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide;
- Over 33,000 tonnes of sulphur dioxide and
- Over 10,000 tonnes of nitrogen oxide
- Significant investment in the local community and economy
- Direct local employment during the construction period
- Ongoing contract opportunities on a smaller scale during the operational phase
- The provision by the developer of £2,750 per MW installed per year into a community fund that will be independently managed by trustees drawn from the local community and allocated to a range of causes and initiatives. This represents:
- £140,250 per annum for a 51MW wind farm or
- £3.5 million over the 25 year life of the wind farm
